Business Development Specialist

POSITION SUMMARY: 

World Relief Seattle (WRS)’s strategic plan envisions an expansion of the economic empowerment programming, focusing especially on immigrant business services. Refugee and immigrant owned businesses face unique challenges especially in the midst of a pandemic of adjusting to loss of customers, accessing resources and navigating new regulations and restrictions due to COVID. Emerging entrepreneurs are also struggling to access culturally appropriate resources, tools and capital. WRS is recruiting for a new, full-time role of Business Development Specialist to oversee and develop innovative and targeted initiatives to address these challenges. This role will be holistically serving immigrant and refugee- owned businesses—both existing and emerging. 

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 

  • Outreach -- provide outreach and technical business support for existing immigrant and refugee businesses who are struggling in the current economic conditions.
  • Volunteer recruitment and management -- work closely with WRS outreach team to recruit and manage volunteers to create Business Navigation Teams to match with entrepreneurs
  • Participant Recruitment--recruit and assess refugee and immigrant emerging entrepreneurs for program readiness
  • Program Ambassador --engage with broader community and stakeholders to increase program visibility and networking opportunities
  • Curriculum -- responsible for coordinating curriculum development for Immigrant Entrepreneurship Academy
  • Fundraising --work with the Resiliency Manager and Outreach Team to solicit funding for Economic Empowerment programming by working with WRS grant-writer, participating in donor engagement and events
  • Webinars--plan, schedule and coordinate webinars and classes for existing immigrant owned businesses based on community input and appropriate language
  • Partnerships --maintain positive relationships & communication with organizational or governmental partners and stakeholders
  • Strategy -- explore related economic empowerment initiatives such as phase II of women’s sewing training and market opportunities
  • Reporting -- maintain up-to-date data and provide regular reports on program activities and outcomes to internal leadership team and external stakeholders
  • Goals -- ensure enrollment/participation goals are reached through community outreach and promotion
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  • Good organizational skills and ability to prioritize and balance multiple projects/deadlines at one time
  • Previous experience in businesses management or incubation preferred
  • Previous experience in program oversight and development preferred
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in English preferred but can be learned on the job
  • Self-motivated worker with the ability to problem solve and demonstrate initiative
  • Flexibility in schedule with some evening or weekend hours
  • Good computer knowledge, including MS Office, and the ability to learn new programs
  • Previous experience teaching/training adults preferred
  • Fundraising and/or grant-writing experience preferred

 

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Mature and personal Christian faith
  • Committed to the mission, vision, and values of World Relief
  • Desire to serve and empower the Church to impact vulnerable communities
  • Proficiency in one or more common immigrant languages such as Spanish, Vietnamese, Hindi or Swahili highly desirable
  • Bachelor’s degree required, MBA or Master’s degree helpful
  • Ability to work well with diverse groups of people required; previous cross-cultural experience preferred
