Employment Preparedness Volunteer

Volunteer alongside the World Relief job team to prepare refugees and immigrants for employment. This position offers individual support to refugees and immigrants as they apply for jobs and adjust to new work cultures and expectations. Join the job team in shaping strong applicants!

 

Responsibilities:

  • Volunteer once a week during business hours at the World Relief office in Kent

  • Work with World Relief clients to make resumes, cover letters, and practice job interviews

  • Assist clients with job applications, on-boarding paperwork, and online employment trainings

  • Support the employment team with as-needed activities and tasks

  • Work independently and commit to a regular schedule

  • Communicate with a member of the job team after each task, asking questions and seeking additional training as needed

  • Properly handle and dispose of confidential information

  • Commit to a regular (weekly or bi-weekly) schedule at the Kent office for at least 2 months

Qualifications:

  • A desire to serve refugees and immigrants in support of the mission of World Relief

  • Excellent organizational and problem solving skills

  • Good oral and written communication in English

  • Comfortable working with non-native English speakers and/or translators

  • Knowledge of a second language a plus but not required

  • Basic computer knowledge, including MS Word and the ability to learn new programs

  • Self-motivated worker with the ability to work independently and demonstrate initiative

  • Flexible and patient with an openness toward people from different cultures

  • Engaging and empowering

  • Creative and able to adapt to changing situations

  • Attend a Volunteer Orientation and pass a background check

  • Log volunteer hours each week

All volunteers are required to attend a volunteer training, complete an application, and undergo a background check before starting. At the training you will learn about World Relief's work, the refugees and immigrants we serve, and what it looks like to come alongside them as volunteers in different roles.
