World Relief is an international Christian relief and development organization whose US arm represents one of the largest refugee and immigrant-serving ministries in the Unites States with offices in 27 US cities. The Seattle office is one of the largest, with a variety of holistic programs serving newly-arrived refugees and immigrants.

World Relief Seattle (WRS) seeks outstanding candidates for this important position to advance the cause of helping immigrants and refugees rebuild their lives in our community. The Outreach Specialist will develop and implement creative “friend-raising” strategies to significantly increase the number of relationships with individuals and corporations in the community who may be interested in WRS’s work. S/he will play a key role among a team of experienced professionals to sow seeds that will ultimately lead to investments of time, talent and financial support for WRS’s mission.


  • Continually develop, implement and refine multiple creative strategies to introduce WRS to more individuals and corporations in the community

  • Initiate and coordinate “friend-raising” events (mostly small-scale) to build awareness and grow WRS’s network of local contacts

  • Lead teams of volunteers planning and executing outreach events

  • Research and identify receptive audiences in the community and develop strategies to make meaningful first contacts with them

  • Assist in targeted marketing that communicates the vision and needs of the organization clearly and honestly

  • Work closely with the Outreach Team and the Executive Director to coordinate outreach initiatives and maintain best practices that value and respect partners and donors

  • Consistent documentation of procedures/best practices and contacts, including regular use of Microsoft Dynamics and/or other databases.

Requirements and preferred qualifications:

  • Passionate about championing the mission of World Relief, “to empower the local Church to serve the most vulnerable”

  • Good relational skills; comfort in secular professional settings as well as in church circles; able quickly establish rapport and build trust in personal relationships

  • Exceptional written and oral communication skills

  • Creativity, flexibility and perseverance in pursuit of goals

  • Positive and charismatic disposition

  • Skilled coordinator of events and projects—detail-oriented and able to motivate and mobilize a team

  • Previous experience in event coordination, marketing and/or a related area is highly desired

  • Professionalism and a commitment to the highest ethical standards

  • Experience working or volunteering with immigrants or in a cross-cultural setting is helpful

  • Acceptance of the World Relief Statement of Faith

Position Information:

  • Expected start date: mid-to-late January 2017

  • Location: Kent, WA, with considerable time out of the office

  • Full-time, permanent—some flexibility in schedule required

  • Compensation: $16.50/hour to start, $17/hour after 90 days
